How to Care for your Jumpstarter - Maintaining your Warranty.

By following the guide below, the only way your Jump starter will fail is from old age, a manufacturing fault or from physical damage.

JTM Jumpstarters Best Practice.

1. Never leave your Jumpstarter in a discharged state

When a Jump starter battery has been fully charged it can quite happily be stored away for 2-3 months. However when a Jump Starter battery is flat, storing it for this period would almost certainly damage it beyond repair.

The reason behind this is a chemical process called sulphation. When a battery is charged this chemical process cannot take place. However, when the battery's voltage falls below 12.4V this process begins. The process causes sulphur crystals to form on the lead plates inside the battery, which in turn increases the battery's electrical resistance. The longer this process is allowed to continue the worse the effect. Eventually the battery will become so electrically resistant, that you will be unable to charge the battery, let alone draw power from it.

If your Jump starter battery fails due to sulphation it will not be covered under warranty.
This kind of failure is classed as damage caused by the user through neglect.

2. Never overcharge your Jumpstarter battery with chargers not supplied from the maufacturer.

It is strongly advised to always keep your Jumpstarter as charged as possible when not in use as this helps to maintain the life of your unit.

However you must never overcharge it using chargers not supplied with your JTM jumpstarter. Overcharging your jumpstarter with a charger not supplied by the maunfacturer may cause the Jumpstarter to heat up and severely reducing the battery's ability to yield power.

Overcharging can be caused by a manual charger being left on continuously at a high charging rate.

All JTM Power chargers are automatic and will turn themselves off once the battery has reached the end of a charging cycle. Never use chargers not supplied with your jumpstarter.

Damage associated with overcharging is also not covered under warranty, as the unit is clearly not at fault. This kind of failure is classed as damage caused by the user through neglect.

3. Avoid deep discharging when possible

All Jump starter batteries deteriorate over time, and will eventually have to be replaced. Every time you use your battery then recharge it, its performance is ever so slightly decreased. This cannot be avoided. However, maintaining your Jump starter for years of trouble free use is possible.

The way to achieve this is to not discharge your Jump starter battery too deeply. Deep discharging causes the performance decrement to be more severe. Therefore once you have used the Your JTM Jump starter for the day, it is best to  immediately recharge it rather than use it until it becomes flat.

This is not always possible as the battery may be fully drained with one days use. But when you can, recharge the battery before it's fully discharged as this will help to maintain the life of your unit.

4. Never Over Crank Your Unit

Over cranking your JTM Jump starter will lead to damage to your switch, the units ability to start engines in the future and the longevity of the unit as a whole.

Please note: Do not crank your Jump starter for more than 5 seconds at a time, if cranked for 5 seconds it is strongly advised to allow 15 minutes for battery and switch to cool down before re cranking the engine


5. Always ensure that you select the appropriate voltage when charging your vehicle.

JTM Jumpstarters come with the option of a 12/24 volt switch the allows you to get the most out of your jump starter by being able to jump start vehicles with a 12/24 volt battery system.

It is important to choose the appropriate voltage setting when trying to jumpstart a vehicle as there selectingthe wrong current can cause damage to bot the jump starter and the vehicle you are jumpstarting. Never intentionally select a higher voltage then required when jumping a vehicle.

6. Reverse polarity connections

Always ensure that your clamps are placed appropriately on your vehicles battery the red clamp is the positive connection and the black clamp is the negative connection. Reverse polarity can cause issues with both the battery and the jumpstarter unit so please ensure that your connection is set up properly prior to attempting to restart your vehicle.

7. Storing your clamps

Best practices when storing your clamps is to remove them from your JTM jumpstarter so that you do not inadvertently complete a circuit with your unit which can result in damage to the jumpstarter
